Faculty Recruiting
From CSGSA Wiki
[edit] Faculty Recruiting Representative
This grad is a voting member of the faculty recruiting committee and helps old, stale faculty choose newer, cooler faculty.
[edit] Ideas on being and/or recruiting a good rep
(From Pam)
- Write down a set of suggested tasks for the faculty recruiting rep. That way, if someone volunteers but isn't sure how to handle the task, they've got a starting point.
- Advertise the need for a faculty recruiting rep to all of us, not just those who attend CSGSA meetings. There may be people who like me, want to be involved but can't attend the meetings due to schedule conflicts.
- Faculty recruiting rep has a great benefit that most PhD candidates should be interested in: you get to see from the inside how a University chooses its faculty. I imagine this is invaluable insight for anybody who's going to apply for a faculty job in the future. You learn you first hand what the hiring committee discusses about the candidates. Advertise this benefit to students!
- If all else fails, encourage teamwork. Dan Cosley and Harini shared the job a few years back.
